Draw the Border

Privacy

Last updated 3 October 2026

There are no accounts on this site. You never give a name, an email address or a password to play. This page lists everything that does get stored, and where.

In your browser

The game keeps a few things in your browser's local storage, on your own device:

The identifier is just a random number. It isn't based on your device, your browser or anything else about you. It's there so that playing the same day twice only counts once. Clearing this site's data deletes all of the above, including your streak, and there's no way to get it back.

What a finished game sends

The first time you finish each day's country, the game sends one record to the server: the date, your random identifier, your score and its parts, how long you took, the map projection, and the outline you drew, as longitude and latitude. Each round in Endless mode sends the same kind of record, and the server keeps only your first try at each country. Practice rounds and replays of a day send nothing.

The server adds an approximate location to the record: a country and a region (like a state or county), which Cloudflare works out from your connection. Your IP address is not stored.

I use these records for the "people have drawn this one" line after each game, to see how hard each country turned out to be, and to make the scoring fairer. I only look at them as totals or as anonymous drawings. I don't sell them, share them, or use them to build a profile of you.

Advertising

This site loads Google AdSense and may show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technology to choose and measure ads, as described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can change what Google uses in My Ad Center. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you'll be asked for consent first.

Other services

The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles requests on my behalf and keeps its own short-lived logs for running the service. The game records described above are stored in a Cloudflare database on the same account. The flag icons on the results screen load from the jsDelivr CDN, which sees a request for each flag like any website would. Fonts and map data come from this site itself.

Children

The game is fine for all ages, and it doesn't ask anyone for information that could identify them.

Deleting your data

Clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything stored on your device. If you also want your records on the server deleted, email me your identifier at [email protected] and I'll remove them. You can find the identifier in this site's local storage, as player under borders:v1.

Changes

If the site starts storing anything different, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
